The Blue Crew

As with any competition, there needs to be an unbiased body to pass judgment on every aspect of the game. Softball Canada has worked very hard with Umpires across Canada to ensure then young boys and girls, as well and Men and women have the best officiating of any sport.

All umpires that have agreed to participate in the 2008 Canadian Jr. Men's Fastball Championships have achieved their Level 4 On-field Certification in Umpiring and have officiated in at least 2 previous Canadian Championships.

One other important note. The last time I was involved, I recall that travel expenses for the umpires are paid by the home province of the official, however no game fee is paid for the games worked. They receive a room that is shared with another official and a small per diem. Time away from their regular lives is completely incurred by the umpires. Many use their vacation time to help with these events. This is very generous and their efforts should be highly recognized.

Thank and Umpire today! Without their help, we have no sport!
